LDSB Strategic Planning Consultation: The Road Ahead

Phase 2 Consultation Results
At the December 6, 2023, Education, Policy, and Operations Committee (EPOC) meeting of the Board of Trustees, an overview of the results from Phase 2 of the consultation for the See Yourself in Limestone: The Road Ahead – 2023-2028 Strategic Plan was presented.
This second consultation invited the LDSB community to provide feedback on the draft Mission, Vision, and Values in an online survey.

It was exciting to share that between November 2-24, 2023, we received over 1,000 responses to the survey with the most responses coming from students and families. Thank you to those who participated.

The feedback received throughout the Strategic Plan consultation process, alongside the additional requirements of Bill 98 or the Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act, have helped the LDSB develop a Mission, Vision, Intention and Values:

Mission (What the LDSB commits to): Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of the students we serve by empowering every student with the essential skills to shape their future, be lifelong learners, and contribute meaningfully to an interconnected, inclusive, and evolving world.

Vision (What the LDSB aspires to do): Our vision is for all students, families, and staff to feel they belong within Limestone: a system that understands and supports learners’ strengths, needs, and preferences; inspires their hearts and minds; and nurtures hope for the future success of every student in every classroom, in every school.

Intention (A shortened combination of the Mission and Vision): To make a positive difference in the lives of every student in every classroom, in every school.

Values: Equity, Empathy, Respect, Integrity, Adaptability, Community, Creativity

The next steps are operational as action plans are developed. We will provide more information about these plans in the coming months.

Again, thank you to those that participated in the November consultation. Your input is greatly valued and is helping to shape the future direction of the board.

Phase 2 Consultation: November 2-24, 2023

Phase 2: Collecting Feedback on Draft Mission, Vision and Values - November 2 - 24, 2023

Nov. 2, 2023: During the spring of 2023, the Limestone District School Board (LDSB) collected feedback from the Limestone community, including students, families, staff, and community partners, about their own or their student’s learning experiences, and their perspectives on the key strengths and opportunities of the board for the future. The feedback from families focused on what would help improve their child’s learning was extremely valuable. Thank you to all those who contributed as part of these engagements.

This feedback was collated and combined with several other engagements with students, families, staff, and community partners to support the development of our new Multi-Year Strategic Plan. A summary of the feedback was shared at the August 23 Board Meeting.

In June, the provincial government passed new legislation, Bill 98 or the Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act, which set three provincial priorities that must be incorporated into the LDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan: (a) Achievement of Learning Outcomes in Core Academic Skills; (b) Preparation of Students for Future Success; and (c) Student Engagement & Well-Being. Here is a graphic with further details around Ontario’s Student Achievement Plan

Based on the first round of consultation on the strategic plan from the spring, and the additional requirements of Bill 98, we have drafted a proposed Mission and Vision for the new strategic plan.

You are now invited to provide your feedback on the proposed Mission and Vision and vote for a selection of Values that best describe the future direction of the board through an online survey. This survey is open now until November 24 at 4:00 p.m. Your input is greatly valued, and we thank you in advance for your participation.

Phase 1 Consultation: June 19 - July 1, 2023

July 1, 2023:
The survey is now closed. The data will be analyzed and an update on the strategic planning process will be provided in the fall 2023. Thank you for your participation.

June 19, 2023:
The LDSB is seeking your input as we begin the development of a new strategic plan (2023-2028) to help guide the district forward over the next few years. We are inviting students, families, staff, board committees and community partners to share their feedback on areas of strength and improvement throughout the board.

You are invited to participate in a tailored, anonymous online survey through ThoughtExchange to answer the following question: From your perspective as a community partner, what key strengths do you see for Limestone District School Board in the next few years? Key challenges? Key opportunities?

Here is the link to the online survey: https://bit.ly/StratPlanSurvey-CommunityPartners

Please note: You may have more than one response, and you may submit as many thoughts as you would like, but please only submit one idea at a time. Other people will see your idea(s) and will have the opportunity to indicate how much they agree with your submission(s). You will also have the opportunity to rate others’ submissions.

This is one way we are consulting with stakeholders. If you are a parent or caregiver of a LDSB student, you will have received another link to provide input from that perspective. If you are a student, you will have received a different link to provide input from that perspective. We will be collecting feedback from all stakeholders throughout the month of June and providing you with an update outlining next steps in the fall.

The rollout of the new strategic plan is critically important for the future of the LDSB. The plan will help shape the future directions and culture of the district. With your help, we can best support students’ learning and well-being for years to come.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
